MEHITABEL
Mehitabel was established in 1947 in Cebu, Philippines by Maria Montenegro de Aboitiz. Doña Maria had the idea that during post-war reconstruction in the Philippines, families would need good furniture made from the local rattan and wood, and many woodworkers needed jobs too. She established Mehitabel shortly thereafter. Her furniture caught the attention of several American businessmen stationed in the Philippines, leading to the development of an export business for Mehitabel.
As Mehitabel’s reputation for making high quality rattan furniture reached the United States, the Company began to expand its client base, and focused on its export trade. Today, Mehitabel is the oldest continuously operating export furniture company in the Philippines.
